Since 2003, there have been series of attacks by armed herdsmen on the poor farmers in Benue state. The attacks have since spread across the local communities of the state but most critical communities includes, the Agatu communities in Agatu Local Government Area, The Iharev, Nzorov, and Saghve communities in Guma Local Government Area, The Tombu communities in Logo Local Government Area, The Tyoshin communities of Gwer Local Government Area and so on.This have left many dead, several injured and deformed while properties and farmlands worth Billions of Nigerian naira destroyed. The Federal government of Nigeria especially the President of the country President Muhammadu Buhari have remained mute and give a blind eye to the incessant attacks especially on it's increase in the recent years. Many people sentimentally blamed it on the fact that he (the president) is a fulani man and most of the top decision makers and law enforcers are all from the fulani ethnic group. Several clarion calls and protest have been carried out by the poor people of Benue state agitating an end to this menace which has led to the recent enactment of the Anti open grazing law by the Benue state House of Assembly published on 1st of November 2017. On implementation of the law by the state government, the war is wagging more stronger as the evil herdsmen have made deadly return attacks as of 23rd December 2017 to the most recent 1st January 2018, leaving scores dead and an astonishing number of casualties coupled with massive destruction of lands and properties.
