Replace IDS 1161 with a required Personal Finance course
Why this petition matters

Most students feel unprepared for the real world and it's not because they don't have a job. It's because they're now receiving an income and haven't the slightest idea what to do with it. These independent adults are calling their parents and googling questions such as "How do I pay taxes?" or "How do I buy a house?"
At the University of Florida, undergraduate students waste $600-$2100 (depending on if you're in-state or out-of-state) on a class where students read and write about Siddhartha and Antigone and discuss the abstract what-ifs of the world instead of being prepared for reality.
As a senior at the University of Florida, I believe that I and all of my friends would feel more prepared for the future and would have benefitted much more from a personal finance class than IDS 1161.
