Petition “Saving Our Nation's Children”

 We the People, ask the administration to create a federal law “mandating" the implementation of a nationwide K-12 school security system, and the use of metal detectors at the open entrance of every K-12 school in the United States which intends to open its doors for the day to students.”

 Cause;  Active shooters in K-12 schools have become epidemic. Since 2009, The United States has seen more than 185 school shootings. Since 1999, we have experienced 304 fatal school shootings. 

Since 2009 alone, our nation has lost more than 360 children to active shooters in their classrooms, where they are guaranteed their rights to receive an education free from interference, or retaliation. Our nations’ children are being targeted because of their age, vulnerability, and because they are caught in a classroom where they will be easily shot and killed all at the same time (a.k.a. mass murder, mass violence, terrorism.

 Since the Marjory Stoneman school shooting in 2018, the U.S. has seen 87 school shootings, 60 people (most of them children) have been killed or injured, and those are only the statistics for “the last 3 years!”  The statistics indicate our nation's children have experienced a rate of nearly 2 school shootings per state just in the last 3 years.  The rate of active shooters on K-12 campuses is alarmingly and rapidly increasing!

 We Stand United;  It isn’t enough to apologize to the victims' families!  WE need to ask ourselves, “When are my children, my grandchildren, my neighbors kids going to be next? It isn't a question of if, but "WHEN!" Whatever our schools are currently doing to secure the safety of our students, it isn’t enough! The only real answer to the problem is simple, and affordable, by creating and executing a mandatory federal law, mandating the use of metal detectors at every open entrance of every school that is going to open its doors for the day to students. WE can save them NOW!

Expected Results;  By eliminating the threat of weapons in classrooms, we will eliminate active shooters in our schools. We expect to see a drastic decline of K-12 deaths from school Shootings. By implementing the new law, not only will we eliminate the threat of gun violence in our schools, but we will see a sharp decline in all forms of weapon violence in our schools, and potentially, a drastic reduction in all forms of criminal activity on our K-12 campuses.

Costs (Equipment and Manpower); The U.S. has approximately 130,000 K-12 schools. A full body metal scanner costs between $1,000 and $30,000. I think we all agree this is a small price to pay to save scores of innocent children's lives. The costs can be covered by fundraising, donations, and federal grants. Our schools can use retired military, military reserves, retired or off duty police officers, and other trained personnel to provide adequate manpower to monitor the new security systems.

Other;  We use metal detectors in airports, courthouses, and other government buildings to secure innocent lives. Our nation's children's lives should be protected just as carefully.
