Dear President Creighton,
We, the undersigned, request that the move out time for seniors be moved from 6pm the Sunday of graduation back to Monday morning at 10am. We all have our own personal reasons for asking the administration to reconsider its decision. Having an opportunity to discuss this issue with concerned parties in the administration would be welcomed by our class so as not to generalize all of our concerns in a short document.
One of our deepest concerns is that the earlier move out time will turn a celebratory day into a stressful one. Many of us have family coming in who have never seen Haverford, who are coming from a long distance, and/or we have not seen in a long time. Having all of Sunday to eat lunch and dinner with each others’ families, show our loved ones where we spent four years, and generally introducing those people who were our support system at home to those people who were formative in our college experience would be much appreciated.
We understand that by asking to move out later we would be inconveniencing the maintenance staff who have been serving us during our four years. For that reason, we are willing to do whatever is necessary to help make their work easier since we realize we are asking a lot of them. Those of us who have signed the document are pledging to empty our rooms before we leave, ensuring that maintenance does not have the extra hassle of having to throw out heavy items we left in our rooms. If Facilities asks us to make additional efforts we would certainly work with them to make sure us staying an extra day is as minimal a burden for them as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our concerns.
