Second Chance Workers Matter!

The Issue

The CTA Second Chance Program workers are forced to live in poverty with no picking rights and can be arbitrarily fired after 12 months. This is because of a terrible Agreement between ATU Local 241/308 and the CTA.

This is not fair!

After six months with a clean record, all ATU Local 241/308 Second Chance Program workers deserve the following in the Contract NOW:

  1. Full-Time Permanent status as Bus and Rail Servicers and Janitors. The higher pay is appropriate because the work we do is extremely hazardous. We deserve paid time off, paid vacation and all of the same benefits for ATU members in Full-Time jobs.

  2. Reinstate ALL Second Chance Program members who kept clean records and worked since March 1, 2020 and were recently laid off.

  3. Give all of us our hazard pay—including those who were terminated since March 1, 2020. No strings attached.

If we do not receive these demands, we will exercise our rights to organize public action and civil disobedience for this horribly unequal treatment.

Just because some of us are ex-felons, does not mean we deserve to be treated as inferiors!
