Dear President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris:

Please consider awarding Stacey Yvonne Abrams the Presidential Medal of Freedom on account of her extraordinary actions to enfranchise hundreds of thousands of Americans and to fight voter suppression efforts nationwide.

For more than a decade, Ms. Abrams has fought for the right to vote on behalf of all American citizens, especially historically underrepresented groups who have been the target of the preponderance of voter suppression efforts. Ms. Abrams' work with Fair Fight 2020 in particular has helped ensure that more eligible voters have had the chance to cast their ballots and to have those eligibly cast ballots counted as they must in order for America to be the democracy that all Americans worthy of the name hope it will be.

There is nothing more American than supporting democracy and nothing more democratic than ensuring and protecting the right to vote. This is especially important in the face of numerous and serious attempts to disenfranchise citizens, some of which are longstanding and institutionalized, while others are more recent and even more pernicious. In combating these efforts, Ms. Abrams has truly striven to ensure freedom and justice for all.
