On January 6, as the joint session of Congress met to certify the results of our free and fair presidential election, domestic terrorists overran the Capitol. Images of the destruction and mayhem are seared in the public consciousness, but so are images of courage and resolve. One such image was a line of congressional aides, carrying the electoral ballots to safety ahead of the mob. This is most certainly not in their job descriptions, and worthy of recognition. I propose President Biden award the highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom to these young staffers who have become part of the fabric of our history.
