Zambia was forgiven for its debts following the MakePovertyHistory campaign and the Jubilee Campaign between 2000-2005.

The economy of Zambia grew by 7% for 4 years after the debts were forgiven in 2007. The lives of the ordinary Zambian People improved after the debts were cancelled.

Only 15 years after this debt cancellation, the PF Government has again borrowed $18.5 Billion without authorisation from the Zambian Parliament. Most of this debt mainly from China and Euro Bonds has ended up on the pockets of PF Government Ministers and other politically connected persons.

Meanwhile, Zambia is now forced to spend 40% of its budget to service debts while hospitals have no medicines. The Zambian Government is spending more on defence and security- less on education and on poverty reduction.

Zambians must demand that donors should not fund the corrupt PF Government until a Commission of Inquiry is set up to determine how $18.5 Billion debts were secured illegally.
