Write a letter to President Biden to support J-1 visa programs

Thank you for signing our petition in support of J-1 visa programs after the June 22 Presidential Proclamation (P. 10052) suspended six J-1 visa categories through the end of 2020. In a victory for rule of law and international exchange, P. 10052 was enjoined by a Federal court in October. Despite this ruling, it was extended through March 31, 2021 by the Trump Administration.

The international exchange community continues to be significantly impacted by the pandemic and related travel bans. Please consider joining our letter writing campaign to President Biden urging his Administration to ease travel restrictions to support international exchange programs.

Exchange program applicants are experiencing significant challenges getting visa interviews with U.S. embassies and consulates due to the travel restrictions of Presidential Proclamation 10143. P. 10143 reinstates and expands COVID-19 travel bans from Brazil, South Africa, the Schengen Area, the UK, and Ireland. Embassies have cited P. 10143 as a reason to refuse or to cancel interviews for exchange program applicants.

Additionally, embassies are also citing P. 10052 for denying visas despite the injunction.

The international exchange community supports efforts to protect the health and safety of everyone involved in making exchange programs possible. We believe that the U.S. Department of State can achieve those goals while also easing the travel restrictions for exchange programs.

We ask that you raise your voice to express your support for these valuable programs. Please send a letter today and support international exchange!
