Belo Monte will be bigger than the Panama Canal, flooding nearly a million acres of rainforest and indigenous lands. 40,000 indigenous and local people will be forced off their native lands. Millions of unknown species & plants will be lost too. And why? Just to look good for the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games! With this hydroelectric plant they plan to cover their energy deficit for the games!
