I am a Nazarene pastor and an alumni of a sister Nazarene university. I also am firmly convinced that Jesus calls his disciples to non-violence. But the bigger issue is not whether or not violence is sometimes necessary. The issue at play here is whether a chaplain of a university should ask difficult question to his students and colleagues. That is exactly the role of a chaplain at a Christian university to ask questions that will help students and faculty stretch themselves and their faith and to come into contact with the broader family of the Church. I hope that MNU will take the appropriate steps to communicate to their students and the outside world that they value this type of exploration of the Christian faith.
