Since enrolling at Framingham State University in the fall of 2018, we have heard many students voice campus safety concerns. Due to the unfortunate number of incidents that have occurred regarding female safety and racial incidents, we believe now is the time for change. It is clear that Framingham State University prides itself on the safety of our campus. The 24/7 Security Desks in each of the residence halls makes it apparent that we do not want anything unsafe to happen to our students. However, each year we have incidents that seem to go against these ideals and little happens to correct them. Some of the main contributors to these issues include the relationship between FSU students and University Police and the lack of quality camera footage.

We believe we can make FSU a safer campus with the following requests:

Campus Cameras:

While we acknowledge the university makes an effort to allocate money to the most important areas of campus, we believe campus safety should be at the top of the list. Students want their fees to go toward keeping them safe. The cameras we currently have on campus are a waste of resources as they have been unsuccessful in capturing the aggressors that tear down our campus community.

Campus Police Communication:

Campus Police Officers do not currently use the most effective form of communication with FSU students. As RAs, we see Campus Police more than most students on campus and we feel the direct effects of their lack of communication. Oftentimes, the officers do not engage with students unless something negative is happening around them. We believe students would feel more connected and to our officers if they made it apparent that they could also be positive figures in our community.
