The proposed elimination of ICTs will negatively affect countless UW faculty and staff who commute to campus occasionally for a variety of reasons, including temporary mobility or other health issues, personal safety, keeping appointments both on and off campus for themselves and their families, transporting heavy items, and attending to a host of other duties related to their jobs.

The new daily permits that have been proposed as a replacement for ICTs can only be purchased two weeks in advance (requiring more frequent purchases), are not payroll deductible (and thus have a hidden cost), and expire on the date you choose for them at purchase whether you use them on that date or not (which limits flexibility and potentially results in yet another hidden cost). The change was announced without rationale or adequate consultation, and raises issues of equity, sustainability, safety, and accessibility.

We are calling upon the university to either reverse this decision, or delay it until a comprehensive, campus-wide survey of all potentially affected faculty and staff can be compiled and analyzed.

Thank you for your support.
