Petitioning President Barack Obama

Stand up to state/local governments and police

Dear President Obama,

This is an appeal to you to stand up for the rights of the people. I see the country which stood as an inspiration to the world for what democracy is all about now brutally attacking its citizens’ fundamental rights. The Rights of Free Speech and Assembly are fundamental rights, and they are being violated repeatedly right here in this country.

I have faith in you, faith which says that you will ‘stand with the truth’ and will call off the police brutality going on all around the country where innocent people are being arrested, hurt, and denied their Constitutional rights.

Occupy Wall Street has manifested itself. “Dharma” means to do the right thing, and it changes with the world and times. “Dharma” means to stand with the truth. People have been robbed, and their trust has been shattered into millions of pieces.

I have never followed politics or politicians. Many of them make me sick with their actions, but you were the one who gave me confidence again, showing that there are still people who are true in their hearts and are in politics. I felt and still feel that you are a man of conscience. In situations of injustice, how can men of conscience remain silent? I appeal you to stand up, look into your heart and respond to the current situation in the country and in the world; there is no one more appropriate to stand up against this blatant violation of the Constitution, and we all stand with you.

Tell state officials and the police that they are breaching the oath they took by arresting peaceful people and violating their right to assembly, and that they MUST stop. I choose to stand with the truth and I WON’T back down; will you?
