Malala Yousafzai, a mere teenager, become an inspiring symbol of the fight for equal rights for women and girls not only in her native Pakistan, but around the world, when she stood up to the Taliban and encouraged the leaders in her country to allow females equal access to education and other rights. She thus became an inspiration to anyone, anywhere, who struggles against terror and oppression. But at the same time, she is also just a child, and a very vulnerable one, and this was tragically demonstrated when a Taliban assassination attempt left her in critical condition. Now, the Taliban has stated publicly that they will attempt to kill her again. Please, Mr. President, invite Malala and her family to the U.S. so that she can recover from her injuries in peace and security. Hopefully, if all goes well, she can one day continue her fight for freedom and equality. Thank you.
