I bring forth a petition from registered voters in Merrimack, NH who share similar concerns for preserving Wildcat Falls, protecting wetlands and wildlife and having a safe community for our children.

Over the last several years, local residence have seen and voiced their concerns regarding the overflow of traffic from Wildcat Falls parking lot into the neighboring streets.  The highest traffic has been seen during the Spring through Fall seasons along with the holidays. Cars parked on both sides of Currier Road between dawn and dusk creating a public safety issue restricting emergency vehicles to enter safely without delay. The amount of cars parked on both sides of the street also pose a high concern for the safety of the children in the neighborhood.

Secondly, Wildcat Falls trails have seen an increase in foot traffic over the years.  With the help of social media and the Heritage sign on Baboosic Lake Road comes more people and traffic.  Trails are littered with trash and dog excrement. Committee members and local residence are coming together to try and keep it clean. This is protected wetland and we don’t need to expand the parking lot and disturb the wetland even more then what’s been done and created more traffic and trash in the area.

I ask for the following solutions for the above:

1. Ban parking along one side of Currier Road and Hemlock Drive between dawn to dusk.

2. Do not expand the parking lot for Wildcat Falls.  We need to preserve the wetlands, protect the wildlife and limit trash, traffic and maintenance burden on the trails.

3.  Under RSA NH 31:39 we can limit littering in the parking area and trails by posting a sign showing fee for littering by the entrance.

These recommendations can lessen the burden on the community and help protect this beautiful area for our children.
