Why this petition matters

This well known public easement path located along the shore of Morro Bay in Los Osos, CA, has been used on a regular basis by the general public since well before 1990. It runs from the bay shore next to the very north end of Pecho Road, south to the tree covered land adjacent to the Sea Pines Golf Course. People from the local community (and others from all over the country) have used this access for walking, photography, bird watching, and generally enjoying nature. The blocking of this easement would prevent the public's prescriptive right to such use, and cause the public to access the edge of the bay by creating new paths though environmental sensitive habitat which includes several endangered species. The development of this land by the new owners would further destroy habitat (including a tidal marsh, willows, and berry brambles) for the over 200 species of birds that have been seen there, plus many other species of animals and plants. The recently erected fencing, and other development near the bay, blocks the wildlife corridor that runs along the edge of the bay. This public easement, and the parcels upon which it is located, must be protected in perpetuity from fences and any other development that would affect the natural habitat and the movement of people and wildlife along this path.
