As property owners and residents of the Italian Compound Lagoon in El Gouna, Hurghada, Egypt, we are deeply concerned about the safety and tranquility of our cherished lagoon. This place is not just a body of water for us; it's a sanctuary where our children play, our elderly relax, and people with disabilities find solace. It's an integral part of our community that we want to protect.

The Italian Compound Lagoon is officially designated as a "no boating zone" under Gouna regulations due to its high swimming population and potential risk for accidents. This regulation was one of the main reasons why many of us chose to live and invest in this compound.

However, recently there has been an increase in boating activities within this lagoon which poses significant threats both to public safety and environmental health. One day Orascom workers came to measure the lagoon, they said they plan to turn it into a boating zone, which is absolutely not acceptable. The noise pollution disrupts the peaceful atmosphere while boat propellers can not only harm swimmers, but also harm aquatic life and stir up sediment affecting water quality.

We urge Orascom to enforce existing regulations strictly prohibiting boating activities within the Italian Compound Lagoon,  in accordance with the established rules and regulations.  We implore Orascom to consider the impact on our community's well-being and to uphold the promises made when we chose to reside in this area. Our community deserves peace, safety, and respect for its beautiful environment.

We are dedicated to working collaboratively with Orascom to find alternative solutions for boating activities, ensuring that they do not infringe on the sanctity of our lagoon. We believe that preserving the boat-free status of the lagoon is not only in the best interest of our community but also aligns with the vision and values that make El Gouna a unique and sought-after destination, which many of us call their home.
