Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We're reaching out to rally our community in defense of our valued school capacity. A few years back, the Duarte Unified School District (DUSD) made the decision to close Andreas Duarte Elementary School, redirecting students and staff to neighboring schools. 

Now, the intentions of the DUSD have become crystal clear. The school board is currently in negotiations to lease the property long-term to a developer, who we assume is working on plans to erect yet another rental apartment complex, potentially mirroring other developments that have recently sprung up within the city. This proposed project would spell the end for Andreas Duarte Elementary School. It's imperative that we unite to thwart this plan, preserving crucial school capacity for future expansion.

The developer has already secured exclusive negotiation rights with the DUSD. Interestingly, this is the same developer behind other apartment complex developments within Duarte city. The developer recently attempted to purchase the Rancho Duarte Golf Course with plans to demolish the golf course and replace it with an RV and boat storage rental facility. Residents of the city banded together and were able to stop the developer from his plans to destroy this recreational gem.

We implore you to join us in opposing any redevelopment project from advancing any further. Rezoning by the city of Duarte will be required for this plan to proceed, giving us a window of opportunity to halt its progress. Preserving our future school capacity is paramount to prevent residents from having to pay for additional school capacity should it become needed in the future.
