Carpel Tunnel Syndrome is an injury that can be acquired by almost everyone and it is also the most common nerve disorder experienced by majority of the population today. We are all susceptible to this injury for it is acquired by doing repetitive works that require the use of our hands and arms. In this petition, we ask for your support to raise awareness regarding the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. We believe that the greatest treatment for the said injury is prevention and awareness.

With this goal in mind, we share the following information regarding CTS. 

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

The carpal tunnel syndrome, or what is commonly called as the CTS, is a hand related injury that is characterized by numbness, tingling and weakness on the wrist. Too much pressure placed on the median nerve, or bundles of muscles along with nerves that are enclosed in the wrist, is the cause of the pain and discomfort. 

What causes the CTS?

The CTS are caused by the pressure on the median nerve and this pressure are caused by various things and circumstances that are listed below:

1. Pregnancy (susceptibility rate are higher to pregnant women)

2. Hereditary

3. Other injuries.

4. Overuse of the hand.

What are the symptoms of the CTS?

The following are some of the symptoms of the CTS:

1. Intolerable pain on the wrist and fingers

2. Numbness of the hand

3. Tingling sensation in the hand

4. Pain in arm/elbow.

How to treat CTS?

Easy treatments like medicines, such as Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and wrist splinting are some of the treatments that can be done at home. Physical therapy or surgery are some of the taken measures once the patient's case is more severe. And of course, the best treatment available for this injury is prevention.

How to prevent CTS?

To prevent CTS, you must keep in mind the following:

1. Practice a healthy lifestyle. Keep a balanced diet and quit vices such as smoking and drinking.

2. Exercise regularly.

3. Avoid works/ activities that trigger pain in the CTS.

4. Do small exercises that involves the wrist ('flex, rest, bend' technique) to allow movement for your hands as you rest them.
