Tammy Richardson started this petition to Premier Doug Ford and

Doug Ford and his government are planning to reduce statutory holiday's for frontline retail workers.  In Ontario they currently receive 9 statutory holiday's which they have the option to work for extra pay or take the time off to rest and or spend quality time with their family.  Doug Ford wants to reduce the statutory holiday's for retail workers from 9 to 3.  This would leave them with only Christmas, Good Friday and Canada day. Retail workers have been hailed as hero's and essential while they serve their communities during this global pandemic. Retail workers are one of the lowest paid workers in the country. Many work shifts that make it difficult to create a balanced work-life.  Retail workers do not have set schedules and can open a store early morning one day, and work late and close the store the next day.  Retail workers will work most weekends Friday through to Sunday, leaving very little quality family time.  Most workers in the retail business also do not get two days off in a row.  It is vital for retail employees in Ontario keep the 9 statutory holidays.  They are able to increase their gross income if necessary, but more importantly take the much needed rest and time to spend with their families.  Many retailers already have blackout periods for vacation making it already difficult to go on family vacations and or celebrate holidays. Help support your retailers by signing this petition. You have the ability to help support the frontline workers and have your voice heard. Let the government know that you appreciate them and do not agree with them eliminating their statutory holidays. Please join me by signing this petition.
