Why this petition matters

Started by Tess Shoyoye

The Ontario government passed an emergency order forbidding daycares from charging parents for services not rendered during the COVID-19 shutdown, and protecting daycare spots. Sk should please do same.

Some unregistered daycares (located in schools) in regina have refused to issue a refund/credit, their reason being that it was a "management decision". This so called "management decision" was taken without input from the owners of the money - the parents. No email was sent, no communication at all. When parents requested for a refund/credit, the response they got was that there will not be any. If a refund isn't possible, parents should have a credit to their daycare account. The prorated unpaid amount for all families in such daycares could come to about $18,000! The monies are not theirs to keep. They cannot sit on monies they didn't earn!

What's worse, some of these daycares sent the parents emails/other form of communication, advising of an increase in daycare fees for the 2020-2021 academic school year. This is unacceptable.  Parents got no refund/credit, but increased fees.

The Ministry of Education Child Care Office say their hands are tied because the daycares are unregistered. Are parents at the mercy of these people? We need help from the Premier of SK. We need your signatures to nip this problem in the bud. Unregistered daycares shouldn't act like self-governing bodies.
