Why this petition matters

The restrictions on funerals is very upsetting and in contradiction of many other situations. Partner, siblings, children, grandchildren, many of whom are in the same household, cannot attend the funeral of their loved ones, however members of the public (unknown to each other), can be in shops together, workplaces together, medical areas together.

Why are funerals not being given the benefit of the square meter ruling with mandatory masks?

A workplace considered 'essential' can have any number of people present by adhering to the square meter rules.

Public transport can service members of the public from all over Sydney and further, yet families are excluded from being together at such a devastating time, to farewell their loved one.

This restriction is inhumane, contradictory and needs to be consistent with other essential situations.

A funeral is essential, it cannot be postponed, it cannot be avoided, it must go ahead with the respect it deserves. The square meter ruling will still result in restricted numbers but will allow immediate family to be present at a critical time.
