Stop the nationalization of Western Australian industries.

The Western Australian State Labor government plans to nationalize part of the western rock lobster fishery by confiscating, without compensation, 17.3% of the already allocated commercial sector catch. Labor then plans to sell or lease that catch back to the commercial sector. This is like taking your house and then offering to sell it back to you. If this plan is allowed to proceed it sets the precedent for any State or Federal Labor government to nationalize part or all of any business or industry that relies on government permits to operate. This is a threat not only to large enterprises like fishing and mining, it is a threat to every subcontractor or tradesman who requires a government permit to earn a living.
In 1963 the western rock lobster fishery became a closed fishery requiring a permit and a minimum number of fishing units to be allowed to fish for lobster. No further units were to be issued and none have been issued. In 2007 the government divided the catch allowed to be taken each year between recreational fishers and commercial fishers on a percentage basis based on each sector’s historic take. The commercial sector was allocated 95% of whatever catch was allowed to be taken in any given year.
The WA State Labor government now plans to confiscate 17.3% of that commercial allocation and put it into government ownership. The plan to then lease or sell this confiscated catch for commercial purposes is diabolical. It means they will either sell or lease it back to the people from whom they confiscated it or to their competitors. If this can happen in the lobster fishery it can happen in any fishery. If it can happen in any fishery it can happen in any industry. More importantly, if it can happen in WA it can happen anywhere in Australia any time there is a State or Federal Labor government.
If the WA State Labor government gets away with this no-ones property is safe.
