Dear Premier John Horgan and all at the BC Legislature,

Please bring the legislature together virtually if necessary, to undo the taking away of PWD financial supports and raise them instead to be equal to the poverty line which is $2,000.00 so we too can live sustainably, safely and with good health.

Accessibility to safe housing, food, and a safe living environment is a right please remember this and be grateful you are not one of us who live on a mere $1,183 per month with an extra $300.00 a month during this pandemic.

How can you see a single person with a disability find a place to live in this province when our shelter allowance of this 1,333 is only $375.00? Bachelor suites cost $900 a month, one bedroom suites in the Okanagan are at $1,100 at least and rent goes up closer to the coast. Are you attempting toeliminate the province of persons with disabilities instead of making BC the most accessible province in all of Canada? Shame on all of you for always looking the other way and not admitting that the province has a large population of people with disabilities and it increasing every single day. Why do you not increase supports instead of cutting them? How do you purpose to solve homelessness when you create it?

We would like to see each of the members of the legislature of the province of BC take a wage of only 1,333.00 a month for the next year and see how you survive. Of course, there will be those of you with families so see how you do with the income of a family with a person with a disability as a parent survive on the small amount they get from the government for support.

Has this pandemic not shown you politicians that you are creating poverty instead of ending it?

Please let the public know of these decisions so they can judge if this is fair. Please be willing to cut your own pay before you cut those who suffer the most and who are forced to become homeless with costs going up and our support remaining at the same level for over twenty years. Do not steal from us now!

Have all of you taken a cut in your pay of $150.00 so you equally are short $150.00 each month forward in 2021?

No, but you have decided persons with disabilities supported by the province no longer require or need the $300 a month for Corona Virus assistance but half will be okay now, can you please explain? Are you providing us with free housing? Free food? Or free health services to meet our needs based on each individuals’ disabilities?

Is this an item that was voted on or an in-house decision?

To all who sign and share this petition may we be successful so that future generations do not have to live in poverty in such a rich country we call Canada!
