Nicholas Scarfo started this petition to Premier Doug Ford

The recent announcement by Mr. Ford and his government in Ontario has ordered the closure of outdoor facilities throughout the province of Ontario.  Understanding that the entire province is in the midst of a third wave of the COVID-19 global pandemic, this blanket closure is a band-aid solution to what we all know is a complex situation.  I believe that each circumstance deserves its own consideration.
Mr. Ford amended the regulations to allow public playgrounds to open.  I am now asking Mr. Ford and the Legislature to amend these regulations further to open all outdoor motor race tracks to its members immediately.
As a young kart racer, each spring I anxiously await the for tracks to be opened so that I can resume my training.  Mr. Ford, please keep in mind that the racers:
1 - are outdoors
2 - wear full-face helmets
3 - by the sports very nature, maintain social distance; and
4 - register in advance for each on-track event for easy traceability
Dr. Isaac Bogoch, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto said it best when he publicly stated “This year has been tough enough with everything that’s been going on, I think promoting outdoor activities safely would do wonders for mental health and for physical health and of course, it aligns with sound medical and scientific principles.”
I believe that kart racing (and other motor racing) is an outdoor activity that uniquely aligns itself to abide by the suggested COVID-19 safety protocols while also empowering youth to strengthen their physical and mental health.
I kindly ask that you open tracks immediately for the well-being of all racers in Ontario.

Sincerely,
Nicholas Scarfo
