Re: 'District of Muskoka council rejects 2 resolutions to reduce council members'
Pretty much anybody living in Muskoka has read my published letters to the editor over the years, pushing for one level of governance, consisting of one mayor and six councillors.

We simply are over-governed with seven levels of governance in Muskoka, and the resultant cost is phenomenal for what we receive in services. In the area of 80 per cent goes to salaries and benefits.

So, the above "District of Muskoka" decision supports my position as I have stated in the past: "You cannot leave decisions relating to reducing governance to the bureaucrats in place." They will always decide in favour of the status quo, always.

So here we are, with 23 representatives for 70,000 permanent residents {23/70,000 = one representative for every 3,000 constituents} and 70,000 seasonal residents. So, in total, we have one representative for every 6,000 constituents. This is simply unsustainable and not necessary.

We simply do not need the wasteful and duplicitousness of our present seven levels of Muskoka Governance, every of the hundreds of government mandates are carried out seven times in Muskoka.

We the constituents and taxpayers of the District of Muskoka support One Mayor and Six Councillor amalgamation and do hereby demand a Binding Referendum be approved on this issue by our Provincial Government.
