Please Help declare India's environmental crisis a national emergency

Environmental crisis is mostly unspoken and ignored by us. We are literally wearing a mask of polluted air and going out in open everyday without even realising that we are dying a slow death. Its something we face each day and every minute the air we breathe, the water we drink, the vegetables we eat.

Bangalore had more than 300 lakes which has reduced to a very small number in 2019. We see lakes burning due to the chemical waste being discharged in them. It is estimated that it will have no water to drink by the end of 2025. Our National capital - New Delhi and NCR is suffering from the worst air quality index of all time.Air quality index of Delhi is generally Moderate (101-200) level between January to September, and then it drastically deteriorates to Very Poor (301-400), Severe (401-500) or Hazardous (500+) levels in three months between October to December, due to various factors including stubble burning, firecrackers burning during Diwali and cold weather. In November 2017, in an event known as the Great smog of Delhi, the air pollution spiked far beyond acceptable levels. Levels of PM2.5 and PM10 particulate matter hit 999 micrograms per cubic meter, while the safe limits for those pollutants are 60 and 100 respectively.Chennai is suffering from the worst hit water crisis in recent times.

According to a WHO survey of 1600 world cities, Delhi is the worst of any major city in the world. Air pollution in India is estimated to kill 1.5 million people every year; it is the fifth largest killer in India. India has the world's highest death rate from chronic respiratory diseases and asthma, according to the WHO. In Delhi, poor quality air irreversibly damages the lungs of 2.2 million or 50 percent of all children.

It is not just limited to big metropolitan cities but cities like Kanpur ,meerut indore are the worst affected from pollution. According to a report India has 22 of the world's most polluted 30 cities in the world.

How will declaring it a national emergency help?

One problem with us is that we are aware of the issue around us but are always hesitant to take an action to correct it. We as Indians wait for a mass movement by someone to be motivated enough even to be a part of it passively.

  1. If we declare it as a national emergency then we can start noticing things around us which needs correction and more number of people will actively participate towards the cause.
  2. More funds will be allocated to environment alone unlike our current economic budget where environment was not even talked about.
  3. Constructive laws will be implemented at a faster pace.
  4. Offenders can be held accountable for their actions which is currently almost zero when it comes to damaging the environment by big industries and influential people.

Please help each other collectively  in taking this to the PMO and ministry of Climate change and help make a difference to the place we were born and have to live until we die. Your signature can really make a difference. Every signature strengthens this application and is your small contribution towards making a better India for all of us.

I will keep the progress posted . I have plans on taking this petition to several known figures to help it reach farther and to the concerned authorities.
