Why this petition matters

Started by Avantika juneja

The glaciers carry a lot of importance as approximately 2 billion people rely on the Himalayan Mountain Ranges and the mountains are the source of major river systems, which we depend on for agriculture and various other purposes. The rate at which the glaciers are melting, could possibly cause unpredictable floods, lower yields of crop and the entire ecosystem is suffering. Being a tourist attraction, it has slowly started becoming barren and suffocated because of pollution; ice caps melting. Making it a natural heritage site would allow tourism to still continue but at a safer distance to create a sustainable environment. Since Nanda Devi is a natural heritage site, and recently a glacier has started to melt on similar lines the Himalayan Range is in danger; so why is it not declared as one yet?
