Reconsider hiring Dr. Rob Rubalcaba at UCSD

Reconsider hiring Dr. Rob Rubalcaba at UCSD

The Issue

To whomever it may concern:

Dr. Rob Rubalcaba has been hired as a part-time professor to teach Mathematics for Algorithms and System Analysis also known as CSE 21 for Spring 2014 at the University of California, San Diego. During the first week of his class, I was astonished by not only his expertise in the topic, but also his dedication for students. While many other professor hold office hours once or twice a week, there has been numerous occasion where Professor Rubalcaba held office hours for over 2 hours 3 times a week.

Professor Rubalcaba also demonstrated to students about how important it is to understand Mathematics for Algorithms and System Analysis. Although the topic may appear dull, Professor Rubalcaba has put extensive effort to make the class more enjoyable, by showing students real scenarios where Mathematics for Algorithims and System Analysis is useful. Although Dr. Rubalcaba does not do research at the University of California San Diego, one major aspect that differentiates him from all other professors at the University is his passion for students. His passion for teaching also inspires students to engage in active learning in his class. Dr. Rubalcaba is not your typical professor, he also works for the government, as a sushi chef and a DJ, but he makes sure that he prioritizes his students first. I have never witnessed a professor at the University of California, San Diego dedicate so much of his time to help students learn and achieve high standards.

With all the traits that any student would want in a professor, Professor Rubalcaba will not be teaching at the University of California, San Diego due to administrative decision. I would like to ask the administrative staff at University of California, San Diego to reevaluate Professor Rubalcaba and offer him a full time position as a professor. I am certain that the students will miss out on a great opportunity to learn from Professor Rubalcaba if he is not re-hired at the university.
