Stop weekday commuters parking in Downlands Road Purley help make it a Controlled Parking Zone

Every day numerous commuters are using the Grovelands Road end of Downlands road to park for free rather than using the supplied pay car parks near Purley and Reedham stations.  It causes a number of problems. Amongst them are:

Road sweepers cannot clean the the road of rubbish and green leaf detritus.  This then gets swept into the drains on heavy rains causing blockages and runoff overspill into the even number properties on the lower side.  In one case at least new soak aways needed to be dug as the council refused to consider a CPZ previously.

The road based detritus spills onto the pavements making it very unpleasant.

Parking both sides causes traffic problems and danger for children walking to school.

The density of cars often prevents access to residents drives as cars both sides makes getting into the drives sometimes impossible.

The density of cars makes it a magnet for thieves.  This is now happening on a regular basis.

Some non resident vehicles have been parked for long periods leading to the conclusion that this end of the road may well be being used for meet and greet parking from Gatwick.

Please support this petition now that our MP Chris Philp has fired a shot over the council’s bows.  Maybe they will be more inclined to listen.
