HELP SAVE POWYS CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU

Powys County Council are proposing to cut all grant funding they provide to Powys Citizens Advice Bureau from 1st April 2014. Help us prevent the loss of free Citizens Advice Bureau services in Powys by joining us in asking Powys County Council not to cut CAB’s funding.
This loss of funding will mean that Powys is the only county in Wales without a CAB service.
Powys County Council’s grant to Powys Citizens Advice Bureau is £93,580 per annum. With Powys’ population standing at 132,952, this is expenditure of less than £1 per head of population.
During 2012/2013 Powys CAB achieved :
- 6134 clients assisted
- 21,194 advice issues dealt with, such as housing, debt, welfare benefits, employment, family, and other legal issues.
- £2.2m income gained in Welfare Benefits for clients

-£8m debt negotiated on behalf of clients

-£1.4m debt written off

The CAB has existed in Powys (formerly Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire and Brecknockshire) for over 40 years.
Our service is vital to the community we serve.
Access to justice is a fundamental part of a fair and decent society and the CAB supports many clients each year. Our service is vital to the community we serve.
The CAB is a well-established charity with a proud history, highly regarded and trusted by members of the public. The service is free, independent, confidential and non-judgemental, and the only open access service of its kind in the county.
We believe advice is important. We believe advice makes a difference. We believe advice matters!
