I'm signing this because I went to Churchstoke Primary school and am deeply shocked and saddened that it is being closed. I'm particularly shocked as the village of Churchstoke continues to grow. Given PCC has declared a climate emergency surely they should be looking at how they can minimise the need for children to be travelling further and further distances to school. Many will no longer be able to walk or cycle to school. This also impacts on the health and well-being of children as they spend more time travelling and less time playing. I don't believe this decision is being made in line with the principles of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act. It is a short term money saving fix that will have long term negative impacts.

I went to churchstoke school when I lived in the village. So important for small communities to remain connected with a school and local services..

I and my 4. siblings attended Churchstoke schoool in the 50s. It was a joy walking the just 3 miles to school, exercise and taking in nature. I feel it would be a shame for children now to be deprived off this pleasure and have to travel by car which will be adding more pollution to the atmosphere. I think walking too school and meeting up with friends is important to children’s social well-being.

Schools in rural villages should be kept open because closing them rips the heart out of a community. It is a short sighted decision with new builds happening.

Churchstoke is a close community and has a growing population with many new housing developments in progress. To impose further travel requirements and disruption to education needs for developing children, especially after this past year, is short sighted and frankly obscene. Powys Council imposed one of the largest tax increase in Wales last year, its residents deserve better.
