Ronald Roth started this petition to Pottery Barn PR VP: Leigh Oshirak

Pottery Barn (part of Williams-Sonoma) is using an old sales tactic to chase profits while ignoring the impact on our climate.

I recently walked by an outdoor Pottery Barn store in Ohio on a hot day.  The doors to the store were wide open, and I could feel the effect of their powerful air conditioning from across the block.  This was an obvious waste of energy, so I walked into the store and asked the employees why the doors were open while the AC was on.

I was shocked when they informed me that its is a corporate-wide policy that is used to help entice customers to walk into their store during hot days, in the hope that this will result in more sales.  I don't doubt that they get some additional sales from this tactic, but considering that everyone knows that wasting energy accelerates the impacts of climate change, they must make more responsible choices!    It is irresponsible and brashly selfish to trade the future stability of our food supplies (which depend on a stable climate), thus risking famine, in order to chase a higher profit margin for the next earnings report to Wall Street.

Please sign this petition to tell Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn that this is unacceptable, and that they need to use energy in their stores efficiently and responsibly!  Ask them to keep their doors closed when their AC is on.  A simple sign that reads "Come in, it's nice and cool in here!" could do just as well without making climate change worse.
