Our Legacy started this petition to Post office

In the midst of this pandemic, the Post Office has dropped the ball. Residents, in our communities, our understanding of the issues many post offices are facing. The fact that there are not systems in place to deal with these issues is unacceptable.  The pandemic does not have to equate to a disorganized Postal Service. Some of the issues that we have encountered in the last several months include disorganization, rude employees, no accommodations for the elderly, unanswered phone calls, no communication with customers about delays or issues with mail delivery, etc. These are just a few of the many issues that we are dealing with.

My regular postal lady is awesome. She takes the time to inform us if she will be on vacation or off work; she took the time to build a  neighborship with us. During this Pandemic, she has continued to be professional and keep us informed as best she can. During her recent vacation, it was a nightmare. There were no mail packages scanned as delivered, packages never received, mail delivered to the wrong homes. I am not the only person to experience this, other communities are having similar issues.  On nextdoor.com a thread has been created concerning these issues. I have also witnessed instances where customers became upset with employees and employees engaging in heated arguments with customers. This is quite unprofessional.

What are the solutions?

1. Allow residents to sign up for a phone system to receive alerts if they will not be receiving mail, or your package will be late. (example: you currently can sign up for text alerts and you will receive an alert every time your package is scanned, The United States Post office should add the scanning option for packages, your package will be late due to Covid19 and your package will be delivered in a couple of days.)

2. In the post office create a sign-in sheet for customers to write down the important information the employees need to search for a package.

3. Assign an employee to all elders so that they are serviced first.

4.Heavily encourage employees to be kinder.

5. Require the Director of Post Offices to attend community meetings to discuss these issues and solicit ideas from the community.

This petition will be used for all residence who experience issues at their post office. We will use this petition to get answers and solutions. A postal worker is the lifeline of our community, the goal is to express our concerns and help with solutions. The leadership must take the charge to ensure they are safe and we get our mail and packages by problem-solving the issues and not let them linger.
