The Portsmouth school system is not meeting the needs of our children.  The academic and social development of our kids is being put at risk due to the lack of in-person academic instruction.  School administrators are not taking enough steps to get our kids back in school full-time, and so we need to take action.

Data from the American Academy of Pediatrics shows that COVID-19 is not a significant health risk to our kids.  As of March 4, 2021 - there have been 12,027 cases of COVID-19 in children between the ages of 0 - 19 in the state of NH.  15 of these kids have been hospitalized, and 0 have died.  While COVID-19 is itself tragic, the unknown consequences of our REACTION to this disease (social and mental problems due to the isolation of tens-of-thousands of kids) could be just as tragic as the disease itself.

Now that a vaccine is available to school staff members, there is no reason why we cannot return to full-time, in-person instruction by May 3rd.  We should prioritize this goal over any social distancing guidelines from the CDC or Department of Health and Human Services.  Returning to full-time, in-person instruction is in the best interest of our kids - physically, emotionally, and socially.  We need to return to "normal" to allow our kids to have a healthy, happy, and effective education - they deserve it.

We demand a return to full-time, in-person instruction by May 3rd.
