Portland State's Interim President, Stephen Percy, recently decided to cancel the 2020 Graduation Commencement Ceremony that was going to be held in June. This ceremony can be postponed to a later date, such as in Fall or even next year, 2021. Other colleges and universities in Oregon are postponing their graduation ceremonies to a later date. However, PSU academic leaders announced that they simply do not want to postpone the ceremony, and instead are saying its more convenient on their end to change the ceremony to a virtual meeting. 

After years of struggling with academic finances, studying days on end, completing hours worth of exams, multitasking between taking care of their families and trying to better their own education, pushing through hundreds of jobs applications, commuting and even trying to find themselves, all academic graduates deserve a proper commencement ceremony in front of friends and family to commemorate their academic honors, achievements and to celebrate making it through all of the blood, sweat and tears.
