Neil McCalmont started this petition to Portland Public Schools

Jefferson High School has been one of the only majority African-American schools in Portland and a pillar of Portland's Black community for years. However, there has been some controversy over the name of the school as Thomas Jefferson was a notorious slave owner. With the statue gone and monuments to America's white supremacist history coming down, it's time to rename this school to better reflect the demographics. There's nobody better than Lennie Edwards, Jefferson's video production teacher who is retiring this year after an over thirty year career. This man knows more about the school and community than anybody else, is a passionate advocate for the Jefferson's reputation and is also one of the only Black teachers at the school. He deserves to be remembered forever at a school that he poured his heart and soul into and I hope you sign this petition to make that a reality. Demos I say!!!
