Time to Let City Council Know we're not paying rent April 1. (9AM CALL OF ACTION TODAY)
Mar 17, 2020 —
Today at 9 am, Portland city council is announcing a moratorium on evictions. We need people to call in, tune in online, tweet, and email to let them know we got at least 18K+ people who ain’t finna pay rent in the Portland Metro Area come April 1st. WHO IS IN? Flood the lines and tell them we need more than a moratorium on evictions--we demand a complete cancelation of rent until tests and treatment are freely and widely available to everyone who needs it.

There are over 18,000 people who have backed the call to not just halt evictions, but to completely freeze all rent payments until this crisis is over. Whether we are out of income because our jobs are closed, because we are doing the responsible thing to protect our community by not going out, or because we are sick ourselves, the residents of Portland and the surrounding metro area simply don’t have the wages to pay rent, and we won’t have the income to make it up when the crisis is over as we can barely pay the rent as it is due to the years-long housing crisis we’ve experienced locally.
Should Wheeler ignore our demand, he and his private landlords will find workers willing to escalate up to and include a General Strike and Rent Strike. Our workers who fall ill will be left on your doorsteps and you will not escape a plague that grips your people.
