Coach Scott Garrison has recently been let go of his position as the boys' tennis coach at Portage High School, this action has made him also resign as the girls' tennis coach. From what I heard, Coach Garrison was let go due to "not establishing positive relationships with parents and players", if you know Coach Garrison, you would know this to be false. Garrison has always expressed his devotion to PHS, his players, the parents, and the love for the game of tennis. He also led the 2016 and 2017 girls tennis teams to sectional championships. I was a part of his team from 2014-2017. For me personally, Garrison taught me the love for tennis, and worked independently with every one of the players to create a personal bond as well as a winning team. Even now, almost four years after graduation, Coach Garrison reaches out to me, as well as other players and parents, which further exemplifies his relationship with players and parents. We are looking to fight this decision, and bring back the one person who has built the program back up, and deeply cared for the tennis program at the school. Coach Garrison has so much pride for Portage High School, especially his tennis teams.
