Mitigate anti-social driving behaviour in Port Melbourne

Dear Margaret Fitzherbert, Bernadene Voss and VicRoads,
We are writing to you to express our concern about the level and frequency of anti-social driver behaviour in Port Melbourne and surrounding suburbs, and to urge you to take action.
The behaviours we refer to include hooning, speeding and extreme motorbike noise caused by loud motorcycles, often ridden in groups. These problems are happening on a daily basis, have grown worse over time and are particularly troublesome in the warmer months.
The problems are impacting quality of life for residents – people are feeling unsafe and the noise levels, particularly at night, are robbing us of downtime, rest and sleep.
We are asking you to address this growing problem and hope you will consider undertaking action which has previously proven effective. This would include:
• More regular speeding patrols, or the installation of permanent speed cameras along Williamstown Road, Beach Street and Bay Street
• Regularly monitoring noise levels produced by motorbikes and other vehicles
• Enforcing noise and speed limits by applying appropriate punitive measures, such as the issuing of fines
We also strongly feel that our suburb, which attracts many visitors from other parts of Melbourne and beyond, deserves a dedicated, appropriately resourced police station so that ongoing improvements in liveability can be achieved.
It is understood that the above measures are costly, but we are confident that the cost would be more than offset by the revenues generated through fines.
This is an issue of great importance to Port Melbourne residents, and we urge you to give it the consideration it deserves. We look forward to seeing the appropriate measures implemented with urgency.
