The Church in China needs our help!

Cardinal Zen of Hong Kong traveled to Vatican City, Rome last week seeking a personal audience with Pope Francis to plead the cause of the persecuted in China and ask for a faithful bishop to be appointed in Hong Kong. He was denied an audience. This was not Cardinal Zen’s first attempt to meet with Pope Francis, and follows years of advocacy for the Church in China. Cardinal Zen has a history of being outspokenly critical regarding the Vatican Deal with China, a deal that many say led to an increase in Christian Persecution in China.

He told the Daily Compass: "I have come to warn the pope that the appointment of a pro-Chinese government bishop in Hong Kong would spell disaster for decades to come." Regarding the Holy See’s agreement with China he said: "The idea of striking accords with Beijing is insane. It's like trying to make a pact with the devil. There’s no grounds for dialogue whatever the argument.”

“The situation is very bad. And the source is not the pope. The pope doesn’t know much about China,” Cardinal Zen told CNA on Tuesday.

“The Holy Father Francis shows special affection to me,” Zen said, but added that he is in confrontation with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State.

“I’m fighting Parolin. Because the bad things come from him,” Zen added.

Urge the Vatican and Pope Francis to meet with Cardinal Zen and appoint a faithful bishop to Hong Kong! The Church in China needs our help!
