We already have the authority we seek. Jesus gave it us in Matt. 18. Don't ask the Pope for something he doesn't have. The clergy can only perform in tandem with the Jesus-authorized community. Repair My House by Michael Crosby points this out.

I am an inch away from leaving the Catholic Church due to the continued gross mishandling of child sexual abuse by priests. I love my Catholic faith, and am active in the church. At a certain point, am I becoming culpable for the actions of those I spend my time and money to support?

I am a Catholic born and bred but I feel ashamed to be one now. the Church is in desperate need of reform.

A catharsis, an opening of all the doors and windows in the church is needed . Otherwise , more and more will not listen and generations will continue to be lost. It is not enough to be preaching to the converted.

We want to get rid of this sexual abuse scourge for the sake of our young (& older) people and we want to be proud of our Church and the way its members live Jesus's gospel..

The church needs to once again 'open the window and allow a new spirit to come in' just as Pope John XXIII did when he announced Vatican II

The Church badly needs reform and it needs the laity to help in this process, preferably with a Vatican Council involving laity.
