Why this petition matters

Started by Erin Jimenez
The monument that sits on the Polk County Courthouse lawn was dedicated by the United Daughters of the Confederacy's Cedartown chapter in 1906 to honor confederate veterans. However, it is incompatible with the notion of justice that it continue to be allowed to stand. The Confederacy fought against the United States of America for the states' right to own slaves. This statue represents a racist, hurtful past that should not be praised. Polk County, GA wants to be better than this statue. Please sign this petition to voice your support for its removal.
