I am outraged at an issue this state has not taking care of. It's sad that an 18 year old has to write a petition to adults between ages of 30-70 about a law that should of been put into place a long time ago.

I want to tackle the issue of cigarettes. My 12th grade government teacher told the class one day that the American Govt. should stay out of the citizens life as much as they can. Following that statement he said, "If what the citizen is doing isn't harming anyone then let he or she do it. The people of this country should be able to choose what they want to do as long as they know the consequences and they are not harming anyone else". I fully agree with him. So that brings me to the issue of cigarettes. Products like chewing tobacco are not hurting anyone but the person chewing it, but smoking cigarettes has been proven to harm the people around them. This method as we all know is called second hand smoking. We all know what second hand smoking is and they issues it can cause. Since we do know, why are cigarettes still out for market? There should be a bill passed that illegalizes the manufacturing, purchasessing, and selling of any tobacco product that requires you to smoke it.

This issue really hits me hard. How can you say you care about this state if you don’t at least try to tackle some of the issues that you know are a problem. I just want to know why? Why keep shipping cigarettes to corner stores by corner stores? Why is the recreational use of marijuana still illegal when we know the benefits and how much revenue it would could bring in. Please think on these issues. Everyday I see my community smoking there life away. Its posted all over the stores. Take the cigarettes away if you truly care about this great state of Virginia.
