My son was born deaf in both ears because of medical negligence and experienced bleeding on the brain. He had his first surgery at three months and was fitted with a VP shunt to drain the fluid from his brain. He has done three further surgeries to this point on his brain and presents with severe to profound deafness, speech problems and learning difficulties. My son has received an award from the NHS and it is over four years now and his money has not been invested even after the appointment of a second professional deputy.

The court has made it very difficult to dismiss a professional deputy and one has to pay several thousand pounds to submit an application for their removal, and only after two years after their appointment, I think, can they be removed. The court dismissed the first deputy because of failure to act in my son's best interest, and now the second appointed deputy is walking in the footsteps of the first; a big failure to carry out his duties and work in my son's best interest.

Although I am joint deputy, and I have presented a detailed investment plan from a respected investment agency, much has not been done.

I think there needs to be an investigation into the way these professional deputies function and apply robust measures to discharge them when they fail to work in the best interest of their clients. Change is needed.
