50% Youth Representation in the Local Elections

50% Youth Representation in the Local Elections
Why this petition matters
The Local Government in the previous years (led by Senior citizens) has repeatedly demonstrated that young people within their respective backgrounds are taken for granted and disregarded. They generally do not undertake all appropriate legislative, administrative, and other measures to the maximum extent of their available resources to ensure that the rights of the Youth are realized. Evidence does not support the assumption that Seniorcitizens within Local Government will ensure adequate representation of young people’s best interests in youth prioritization, policy development and socioeconomic youth
development.
Senior citizens in positions of authority over the youth can and do abuse their power. Senior citizens in the Local Government have been responsible for decisions, policies and actions that have been inappropriate and
sometimes actively harmful to the youth, even when the underlying intention has been to promote their welfare and address their social ills. These actions are characterized by a consistent failure to consult
and involve the Youth.
Young people’s interests are frequently disregarded in the Local government in favor of those of the powerful interest group. This is because the Youth is not involved in the decision-making and their concerns never reach the top of the political agenda
However, the campaign recognizes that the active engagement of young people themselves is central to successful implementation, effective participation of young people in the decision-making to achieve the Local Government objectives.
