Across NSW, petrol station owners are experiencing a large amount of “Drive Offs”. What is a Drive off? It is a CRIME that involves an individual filling up their car and leaving, without paying for the fuel they have used. Similar to an individual entering a store and leaving with a dress, without paying for that dress. Or a person eating at a restaurant and leaving without paying for their food. While a Drive Off fits the definition of a CRIME under the Crimes Act 1900, local law enforcement have chosen to continually turn a blind eye, leaving small business owners to absorb the monumental ongoing costs associated with the theft. Often, the small business owners have footage and proof of the CRIME, yet are frequently told by police they simply don’t have the time to follow it up. This has created a large gap in the system, which has been identified by THIEVES and has resulted in a significant increase in theft across petrol stations in NSW. We fear that these thefts are becoming more frequent, more violent and more expensive. We require YOUR support in signing this petition, to remind our local law enforcement to DO THEIR JOB. This is theft. Theft is a crime. Let’s remind our local law enforcement that ALL crimes should be followed up.
