police to attend within 2 hours after a patient has been sectioned
Why this petition matters
Cammys law is a petition we would like to put forward to get the government to make it law that the police are to attend within 2 hours after a patient has been sectioned by a physcatrist at a mental health hospital. This is to ensure both the patient, carer and professionals are safe and not left waiting hours. This waste government resources, time, money and staff. This also prolongs the patient, carer and/or family members distress. This puts both patient and carers/family at risk as they are left to care for the patient after they have been sectioned. They can be a risk to themselves or others during this time. E.g ( patient could self harm or harm others) Police cant remove the patient unless they are doing something illegal. Cammys law is about a young adult who has been sectioned under a CTO who was left without medication, not in hospital but with his carers after the fact. All because the police would not take him and 6 professionals times are wasted because the police wouldnt attend. If anything was to happen during this time to either carer or patient who's responsibility is it? We dont believe it is either carer nor patients fault and is a fault of the police and government these carers shouldnt be left at risk and the patient could be suicidal during that time. If the patient is sectioned then they shouldnt be left unattended
