The editors of Poetry Magazine should have considered the reasons why a person being considered for publication was incarcerated in the first place. Nesset isn't a marginalized person convicted of drug possession, for example, but a convicted predator who was found in possession of an enormous collection of child pornography (including of the rape of babies!). His work should not have been published in the first place, since doing so suggests that his status as a prisoner outweighs the incredible harms done to survivors of child sexual abuse.

This is so wrong and beyond disappointing. Now when we need poems more than ever to lift us so many look to this foundation. Not me. Not anymore.

Pedofiles should not profit on the backs of those they abuse!

It is disgusting that one of the premier poetry magazines in the world would publish the work of a paedophile and then refuse to apologise and stop selling the issue.

Marginalized means something completely different.

By including predators like Nesset in this issue, Poetry magazine is privileging Nesset's career over the well-being of sexual assault survivors. Poetry magazine is also privileging a white pedophile's work over the work of hundreds of victims of racial injustice in the prison industrial complex. Sexual assault survivors and BIPOC readers/writers deserve to feel safe and welcome in this prestigious and well-funded literary venue. Poetry magazine owes survivors and BIPOC an apology and reparations.

This is a disgrace and yet another slap in the face to childhood sexual assault/abuse victims like myself

I'm signing because why should KIRK get special consideration. We all know he got a call. We all know His friends in the literary community put him on top of the slush pile of over 1,000 entries. It is disgraceful that he got more of an opportunity than people who have been victims of the prison industrial complex owing to slavery and racism. He is not a victim. He is a predator.
